Shortly after 2:15 p.m. on June 1, 2026, Troopers with Louisiana State Police Troop L responded to a single-vehicle crash on LA 450, approximately 1 mile north of LA 25, in St. Tammany Parish. The crash ultimately claimed the life of 89-year-old George Cole of Kentwood.
The preliminary investigation revealed that a 2001 Ford F-350 was traveling north on LA 450. For reasons still under investigation, the driver lost control of the vehicle, traveled off the left side of the roadway, and struck a tree.
The driver was properly restrained, sustained minor injuries, and was transported to a local hospital for treatment. Cole, who was a passenger in the vehicle, was also properly restrained, sustained moderate injuries, and was transported to a local hospital for treatment. On June 2, 2026, Troop L was notified that Cole succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased. Impairment is not suspected; however, routine toxicology samples were obtained and submitted for analysis. This crash remains under investigation.
