Bogalusa Police Arrests Three After Drive-By Shooting

Last Sunday (May 17, 2026), at approximately 1:04 a.m., officers with the Bogalusa Police Department responded  to the 900 block of Wilmuth Street in reference to a report of shots fired.

Officers learned that an altercation involving multiple individuals had escalated into an exchange of gunfire near the intersection of Berne Avenue and Wilmuth Street. Witness statements and evidence collected at the scene indicated that shots had been fired from a vehicle before another individual returned fire and fled the area.

Investigators recovered multiple spent shell casings at the scene and quickly developed information identifying individuals believed to be involved. Through witness interviews, physical evidence, surveillance footage, and the execution of multiple search warrants, officers were able to locate and recover a firearm believed to have been used in the incident.

During the investigation, officers recovered a Palmetto State Armory Dagger 9mm handgun equipped with an illegal machine-gun conversion device, commonly referred to as a “switch.” Officers also recovered an additional semi-automatic handgun, ammunition, and evidence linking one of the firearms to the shooting.

As a result of the investigation, officers arrested the following individuals:

  • Male (Juvenile) charged Assault by drive by shooting, Illegal carrying of weapons, Illegal possession of a handgun by juvenile, Illegal use of weapons or dangerous instruments, · Obstruction of Justice, and Manufacture, transfer, or possession of machine guns unlawful 

  • Female (Juvenile) charged with Principal to assault by drive by shooting, Principal to illegal use of dangerous weapons, Obstruction of Justice, and Illegal possession of handgun by juvenile 

  • Casey D. Morgan (age 36 of Bogalusa) charged with Accessory After the Fact and Obstruction of Justice 

Both juveniles were ordered held at the Florida Parishes Juvenile Detention Center pending a 72-hour hearing.

This remains an active investigation and additional charges and/or arrests may follow as investigators continue reviewing evidence and conducting interviews. A department spokesperson stated, "The recovery of a firearm equipped with an illegal conversion device is deeply concerning. These devices can turn handguns into fully automatic weapons, dramatically increasing the risk to innocent citizens and officers alike. We remain committed to aggressively investigating violent crime and holding those responsible accountable."
