Johnnie Will Magee

February 24, 1960 — April 3, 2026

“Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me. In my Father’s house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also                      John 14: 1-3

Johnnie Will Magee, born on February 24, 1960 in the welcoming town of Bogalusa, Louisiana, departed this world on April 3, 2026, at the age of 66. John was a cherished son of the late Gloria Jean Harry Peters and Edward Magee but reared by Leonard Charles (affectionately known as Bubba) Peters. Johnnie spent his childhood in Bogalusa, Louisiana.

John’s educational journey began in the Bogalusa School System where he graduated and excelled academically but also found his passion on the track field. His talents and determination led him to further his education at Devry Institution of Technology where he honed his skills and prepared for a career that would span decades. Johnnie spent many years working in the casino sector in Lake Charles, Louisiana, where he established a compelling reputation for his technical expertise in servicing and repairing casino equipment. He was a member of Sweet Beulah Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Dr. James Magee, Sr.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Leonard and Gloria Peters, Edward Magee; as did his brother, Sylvester (Sly) Magee; his grandmother, Maudell Peters, and his loving aunts, Irene Harry Rogers, Estella Speights, and Willena Jones. His uncle, William Harry, along with his brothers-in-law, Herman Reece and Benjamin Brown, Sr., and his nephew, Damian Davis. Their legacy of kindness and resilience lives on through the family he leaves behind.

John leaves behind his 2 sons, Demont Magee of Houston Texas and Haymann Melton of Denver Colorado; five grandchildren, Khari Magee, Nea Young, Noah, Uriah and Asi Milton. He leaves behind his siblings, Rogie Magee, Sr. (Yvette) of Humble, Texas, Rev. Leonard G. Peters (Valerie) of Humble, Texas, Craig M. Peters (Tess) of Fulsher, Texas, Augustine Brown, Wenn Jefferson-Reece, Lenora Lynch (Charles) of Houston, Texas, Wilhelmina King (Michael) of Jamaica, New York, and Patricia Marks (Eric) of Topeka, Kansas. His family was his joy, and he cherished each member, including his grandchildren, cousins, nieces, nephews, and a vast network of friends and extended relatives. Johnnie cherished his cousins Sammie and Naz Rogers, and Leonard Harry (Minkey) who were like siblings. Special thanks go to Pam Hardy and Lakeshore Manor Nursing and Rehabilitation in Slidell, Louisiana.

A visitation will be held on Friday, April 17, 2026 from 3:00PM – 6:00PM at Crain and Sons Funeral Home. Funeral service will be on Saturday, April 18, 2026 at 11:00AM at Crain and Sons Funeral Home with Dr. Rev. Leonard G. Peters – Officiating. 

Crain and Sons Funeral Home – Bogalusa are in charge of arrangements.
