James Darrell Dykes

February 28, 1962 - April 20, 2026

James Darrell Dykes, age 64 and a resident of Franklinton, passed away Monday morning April 20, 2026 at his home. He was retired after a 27 year career as a correctional officer at Rayburn Correctional Center, where he served as a member of the Fire Brigade team. Darrell also worked with the Washington Parish Sheriff’s Office for a time and he proudly volunteered as a Fireman with the Franklinton Fire Department. He also served in ministry, traveling to different churches in the area, to speak and share the gospel. He was an avid football fan. Darrell loved the LSU Tigers, New Orleans Saints and never missed watching a game. He also closely followed FHS Demons football and other local high school games. Darrell enjoyed collecting all types of special knives and many guns through the years. He loved to watch his favorite TV cooking shows and spend quality time with his family.

Survived by: Daughters and Sons in law: April and Samuel Williams of Thomas, Brittany and Jeff Williams of Angie, Jordin Dykes, Vicky and Shawn Shady all of Lexington, SC; Grandchildren: Kaleb Williams, Larrel Polk, Samantha and Austin Charlton, Tristan and Courtney Tucker; Great-grandchildren: Cooper Charlton, Bodie Charlton, Tilden Tucker; Brother: Michael Dykes of Franklinton; Also survived by one aunt, numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends

He was preceded in death by his granddaughters Mikalah Polk, Kailyn Polk, wife Shirley Jenkins Dykes, parents James L. Dykes and Anita Faye Nielson Dykes, several aunts, uncles and other family members.

Visitation will be at Crain Funeral Home Friday April 24th from 12:00 pm until 4:00 pm. A memorial service will be held in the funeral home chapel at 4:00 pm Friday.
