Allean Hazel Plunkett McCarthy McDonald

May 6, 1934 — April 6, 2026

Allean Hazel Plunkett McCarthy McDonald was born in Berton, MS on May 6, 1934 to the union of William McKinley and Laura Rene Green; whom both preceded her in death.

The Plunkett Family moved to Chicago, IL. They attended the Holy Kingdom Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Reverend Howard McCain. She was baptized at an early age. She served as President of the Usher Board, Missionary and Treasurer. She was a soloist, lead singer and president of the church choir.

Allean graduated from Marshall High School. She was employed by the Cook County Welfare Department and later retired. Allean met and married William Alton “Sonny” McCarthy of Bogalusa, LA. After Allean’s retirement, they moved to Bogalusa, LA. They attended Sweet Beulah Missionary Baptist Church (S.B.M.B.C.) under the leadership of Reverend M.K. Duncan until the passing of her husband in 1995. Allean remained a faithful member of S.B.M.B.C. serving on the finance committee, Church Pantry and Senior Mission. Later in life, Allean met and married J.C. McDonald of Bogalusa, LA until his passing in 2020.

She leaves to cherish her memories two sisters, Evangelist Glines (Rev. Robert) House of Chicago, IL and Laura Plunkett of Bogalusa, LA. She was blessed to have raised three children as her own, Darold Wicker, Sherita Alexander, and Cindy Jackson of Chicago, IL; godchildren, Malik Lewis and Desmond Lewis of Bogalusa, LA; granddaughter, Erica Johnson of Wiggins, MS; great-grandchildren, Jakobey Johnson and Erica Johnson of Wiggins, MS; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Laura Plunkett; sisters, Alice Lewis Lee, and Shirley Jackson; brothers, Herbert, Robert, Sylvester Plunkett, Curtis Jackson, William McKinley, Jr., and Bennie Lewis.

A visitation will be held on Saturday, April 18, 2026 from 10:00AM - 12:00PM followed by the funeral service at 12:00PM at Sweet Beulah Baptist Church 1408 N Roosevelt St. Bogalusa, LA 70427 with Rev. Broderic Magee - Pastor Officiating. 

Crain and Sons Funeral Home - Bogalusa are in charge of arrangements.
