Obituary

Jon P. Extine

November 23, 1959 ~ March 25, 2026

Jon Extine, age 66, passed away at home surrounded by his loving family on Wednesday, March 25, 2026, in Ayersville, OH. Born in Bogalusa, LA on November 23, 1959, he was the son of both late Glenn Extine and Wilma (Kohli) Extine. Jon graduated from Columbus Grove High School in 1977. He is survived by his wife, Cindy (Herman) Extine.

Jon married Cindy on July 24, 1999. Jon has 3 children from a prior marriage. He and Cindy shared 5 children combined. They are Audrey (Caitlin) Extine, Angie (Chris) Smith, Amy (Chad) Beach, Jordan Extine, and Erynn Extine. Grandchildren include Brooke (Nick) Carmichael, Jarrod (Rachael) Beach, Clara, Evan, and Allison Beach, Addyson, and Dalton Smith, and Callahan Extine. Jon is survived by a brother Jeff (Deb) Extine and one other brother. Also included are dear friends Brice (Lorraine) Miller, Mike (Kelly) Miles, Casey, Travis, and Elizabeth Ricker, along with Barry (Gayle) Minish. We also thank Butch (Ruth) Miller, Jon’s friend and hunting partner, our Pastors at Defiance Church of the Nazarene who ministered to Jon with prayer, and his GM co-workers who visited during his illness.

Jon worked at GM in Defiance, retiring in 2025 after 46 years as a Pattern Maker. Jon loved his family, children, and grandchildren. He enjoyed hunting and fishing with his brothers, friends, and loved ones. He found great joy in watching sports, hunting shows, and old westerns. When he wasn’t hunting or fishing, his hobbies included shooting, building guns, and watching Jeopardy with his kids. No one could “ever” beat Jon at Jeopardy. While he enjoyed 70’s and 80’s southern rock and country, he was consoled by worship music. His greatest love was hearing his son play the guitar. Jon was a former licensed Nuisance Trapper in Defiance. He is a member of Defiance Church of the Nazarene. Jon loved his Savior, Jesus Christ, and also his Church Congregation.

Visitation will be held at Defiance Church of the Nazarene on April 18, 2026, from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. and also 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. A Memorial Service will follow at 5:00 p.m. at the church.

Schaffer Funeral Home was honored to assist the family with arrangements.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to CHP (Home Care and Hospice of Defiance) or Defiance Church of the Nazarene. Flowers or memorials can be received at Defiance Church of the Nazarene between 9:30 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. on April 18, 2026.
