Obituary

Shirley "Diane" Lewis

February 29, 1956 - March 6, 2026

Shirley “Diane” Lewis, age 70 and resident of Kenner, Louisiana, passed away peacefully on March 6th, 2026 surrounded by her loving family. Diane was born on February 29th, 1956 in Bogalusa, Louisiana to Joe W. Moore and Marie K. Miley. Diane graduated from American Academy high school in 1974 and moved to the New Orleans area shortly after. She formed plenty of friendships working at L.A. Muhleisen & Son Funeral Home for 32 years.

She is survived by her husband Gerard “Jerry” Lewis; her daughter, Jennifer (Christopher) Matherne, two grandchildren, Ronan and Ryland Matherne, sisters Lora (Nonzie) Williams, Lisa Hobgood, a step sister Margaret (Skipper) Creel, two step brothers Gerald (Connie) Little, Terri Little, a close cousin Phyllis (John) Lee, close brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Joe (Glenda) Moore and Marie Miley, sister Kathy (Glenn) Wallace, brother Stanley Moore, and aunt Aline Forman.

Diane had a contagious smile, was such a joy to be around, and laughed all the time. She loved life! She loved camping with her grandsons, dinners with her daughter and her family, enjoyed gardening, going to casinos, attending family and friend reunions, having girl nights with friends, and watching her hallmark movies and The Golden Girls. Diane really enjoyed telling everyone her “real age” being that her birthday was on a leap year. Her greatest joy in life was being a loving wife for 46 years, a proud mother of her daughter, and the greatest “DiDi” to her grandsons. They loved her chocolate chip pancakes and how she gave the best hugs. She loved cheering them on at their sports events, taking them to parades, and bringing them to get ice cream. She absolutely loved being a part of their lives, reading them books, sharing stories, and creating memories with them. She enjoyed attending church every Sunday with her husband at Divine Mercy Church. Diane will be remembered for her kind loving heart, amazing strength, and unwavering love for her family and friends. She will be deeply missed by so many and forever loved.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Funeral Service at L. A. Muhleisen & Son Funeral Home, 2607 Williams Blvd., Kenner, LA on Monday, March 16, 2026. Visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. with the Funeral Service to immediately follow at 1:00 p.m. Interment in All Saints Mausoleum in Metairie Cemetery, New Orleans, LA.
