Barbara Harris Adams
September 23, 1940 - March 11, 2026
Barbara Harris Adams, a resident of Bogalusa, LA, was born on September 23, 1940, in Asheville, NC, and passed away peacefully with the ones she loved surrounding her on March 11, 2026, at her residence at the age of 85.
Barbara, a retired homemaker, dedicated many years of her life to the Bogalusa City School System, where she helped shape and mold future generations by helping children learn to read, write, and comprehend. The relationships built through her time in the school system are still evident today. Many of her past teachers, colleagues, and students were still keeping in touch with her throughout her final days, with Wendy Perrett being her favorite.
Her heart was for children. You could see this by all who knew her as “Mom,” “Mamaw,” “Meems,” or “Babs.” She answered every name proudly.
To know her was to know her love of the color mauve; her nails and lips never changed colors. Her love of shoes, was a bit obsessive, but we understood her! She made such a profound impact on her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Barbara is survived by her husband, Joseph Clayton “J.C.” Adams of Bogalusa, LA; a son, Paul Harris Jr. of Bogalusa, LA; grandchildren Cara Keating (Kenny) of Laplace, LA, Sarah Harris Kimble (Glen) of Holden, LA, Katlyn Harris Pierce (Michael) of Bay St. Louis, MS, Shari Harris Hutson (J) of Pearl River, LA, and Wade Cancienne (Megan) of Paulina, LA; great-grandchildren Kolby Keating, Maleigh and Nathan Kimble, Braylen Pierce, Lauralye Pierce, Ella Kate Pierce, Brittany Hutson, Brandi Garza (A.J.), Riley Hutson, Avery Hutson, Kevin Green, Timothy Creel, Ace Anthony Cancienne, Austin Anthony Cancienne, and Addie Cancienne; great-great-grandchildren Joseph Garza and Roman Garza; and brother-in-law Wayne Adams (Ann) “Shorty” Adams of Bogalusa, LA.
Barbara was preceded in death by her first husband, Paul B. Harris Sr.; parents, Earl and Mildred Morton; daughter, Karen Harris Cancienne; son, Charles “Charlie” Harris; brother, Charles S. Morton; daughter-in-law, Jan Griffin Harris; and numerous brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.
