Obituary

June Rose Hoyer Magee Thomas

June 8, 1941 - February 19, 2026

June Rose Hoyer Magee Thomas, age 84, went to be with her Savior on February 19, 2026 after a long battle with dementia. June was the oldest child of 7. She was born June 8, 1941 in Sundance, Wyoming. During her childhood her family moved around the mid-west states to find work as share croppers. Then, June made her way to Louisiana and ultimately settled in the Lawrence Creek Community of Franklinton, where she has lived for the last 55 years.

June was a longtime member of Lawrence Creek Missionary Baptist Church. Before her memory started to decline, she faithfully attended the Ladies Sunday School Class and enjoyed hearing the Lawrence Creek Boys, the young people and various others sing.

One of June's favorite sayings was "have gas, will travel". She always loved to drive around and visit the elderly in local nursing homes. She also loved yard sales, flea markets and thrift stores. She could always find a good bargain. But more than anything she loved and was so very proud of her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren, who endearingly called her "Nanny." She took every opportunity to brag on them and their accomplishments.

Left to cherish her memory: Son: Richard Copp and Shandle Martin of Franklinton; Daughters and a Son in law: Dixie Sherman and Jeff Bethke of Holly Springs, NC, Angelique Thomas and Winston Ard of Rome, GA; Grandchildren: Tori and Tommy Waldrep of Franklinton, Alexander Sherman, Matthew Sherman, and Samantha Sherman all of Holly Springs, NC; Great-grandchildren and Spouses: Selena and Tyler Hartzog, Richea and David Seymour, Cheyenne Waldrep; Sisters and a Brother in law: Charlotte Nelson, Patricia and Charlie Bell; Brother and Sister in law: Glenn and Glenda Hoyer; Sisters in law: Jean Thomas and Susan Thomas; Special friend: Mrs. Rita Magee; Special Niece: Sheila Sharp; Also numerous other nieces and nephews, other family members and countless friends

June was preceded in death by her husband and love of her life, Marvin Thomas; her previous husband, Lavern Magee, whom she also loved dearly. (She always said God blessed her with the two best husbands), parents Merle and Tillie Hoyer, baby sister Laura Lea Hoyer, brothers Bob Hoyer, Michael Hoyer, sisters in law Connie Hoyer, Anne Hoyer, Thelma Watson, Pauline Lumpkin and Betty Hughes, brothers in law William Nelson, James Thomas, Glen Thomas, Paul Lumpkin and Kermit Hughes

Visitation will be at Crain Funeral Home Monday February 23rd from 5:00 pm until 9:00 pm and after 10:00 am on Tuesday. A funeral service will be held in the funeral home chapel at 2:00 pm Tuesday with Eld. Duane Ball, Eld. Don Jacobs and Eld. Lerand Hunt officiating. Interment will follow in the Magee Cemetery at Lawrence Creek.
