Obituary

Dr. Nancy L. Kliesch

November 9, 1937 - January 11, 2026

Dr. Nancy L. Kliesch, retired pediatrician, age 88, passed peacefully on Sunday, January 11, 2026, at her home in Ridgeland, MS. Dr. Kliesch was born November 9, 1937 in Franklinton, LA, the daughter of Eddie & Elsie Kliesch.

Her esteemed career of forty years served the lives of countless children and their families. Dr. Kliesch was a dear friend to many patients and longtime staff who continued to visit and communicate with her even in retirement. Her love for animals was second only to her love for children. She proudly "parented" four Shih Tzu puppies throughout her adult life, dainty and proper dogs just as was Dr. Kliesch. As a single career woman, never having children of her own, her practice and her puppies were her focus. Her beloved Shih Tzus often found themselves perched in comfortable spots on the grass, as observers, while Nancy practiced her love of gardening.

Dr. Nancy Kliesch is preceded in death by her father Eddie Kliesch, her mother, Elsie Kliesch, brother Dr. Bill (Virginia) Kliesch, sister Betty (Nathan) Smith and nephew Kregg Smith. Nancy is survived by her sister, Janet (Ben) Appleby of San Antonio, TX. Nancy is also survived by nephews Thomas (Sharon) Kliesch of Clinton, MS, William (Susan) Kliesch of LaGrange, GA and Dr. John (April) Kliesch of Kingsport,TN, Brandt (Gloria) Smith of Orange, TX and Blake (Alana) Appleby of Aspen, CO and nieces Claire (Cullen) Smith of Orange,TX and Dr. Jane Appleby of Charleston, SC and many great and great-great nieces and nephews.

Dr. Nancy Kliesch graciously donated her body to science in honor of her love for medicine and successful professional practice. She will be memorialized in the UMMC Cemetery, located on the hospital's campus. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to one of Nancy's favorite charities which she generously supported during her life.
