Orzia Mae Young Garrett
November 8, 1926 - January 28, 2026
Our beloved Orzia Mae Young Garrett passed away peacefully at the age of 99. She was the first-born child and daughter of Davis Lee Young and Malina Brown Young of Folsom, LA on November 8, 1926.
After obtaining her cosmetology license, her first occupation was a Beautician. Orzia retired from Bogalusa Medical Center after over twenty years with her last position being a head cook, then she became an in-home Child and Adult Caregiver for many who enjoyed her companionship.
Sis. Garrett was a lifetime member in great measure of dedication and commitment of Bethlehem Missionary Baptist Church, currently under the leadership of Pastor Christopher Matthews Sr. She humbly served as a member of the Missionary Society and a faithful attendant of Sunday School Class and Wednesday Night Bible Study as a willing participant. Orzia was also a faithful member of the Bogalusa City Wide Prayer Band.
She is preceded in death by her mother, Malina Brown Young; father, Davis Lee Young; five brothers, Charles, John, Jerry, Curtis, and David,; one sister, Azalea Thompson and five very young siblings.
She leaves to cherish her memory, one son, Anthony E. Hill (Emily) of Shreveport, LA; one granddaughter, Natasha Hill,; 2 great grandsons, De’Mauriyun John Anthony Hill-Smith (DJ) and Princeton Hill-McMickle; six sisters, Aline Young Nelson of Bogalusa, LA, Willie Mae Peters of Milwaukee WI, Bessie Davis of Monroe, LA, Cleo Spurlock of Bogalusa, LA and Mary Nelson (Clifton) of Grand Prairie, TX; one brother, Delos Young of Bogalusa, LA; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and her Church family.
Although she will be missed by many, we loved her in life, in death we can love her still. For those of us who loved her, we hold a special place in our hearts that no one else can fill. We thank GOD there are no tears in heaven, no pain or misery of any kind; everything she experienced on earth is all left behind. She is resting and it's a Blessing! According to The Apostle John in Revelation 14:13 “And I heard a voice from heaven saying unto me, Write, Blessed are the dead which die in the LORD from henceforth: Yea, saith the Spirit, that they may rest from their labours; and their works do follow them.”
