Ellen Jacqueline "Jackie" Ott Dobie
October 26, 1937 - January 10, 2026
Ellen Jacqueline was a native of Mount Hermon, Louisiana. She died peacefully at her home on January 10, 2026, at the age of 88.
Jackie was born on October 26, 1937, in McComb, MS. She was the fourth daughter of John and Grace Ott. Jackie graduated from Mount Hermon High School in 1956 as the Valedictorian. She went on to Centenary College in Shreveport, LA, where she was an active emember of the Centenary College Choir and Chi Omega Sorority for 4 years, She graduated with a Liberal Arts degree in 1960 and in 1979 she received her Master’s plus 30 from the University of Southern Mississippi in Hattiesburg, MS.
Jackie taught elementary school in Shreveport for Judson Street Elementary and Kentwood Elementary before getting married on June 15, 1961 to George L. :Joe” Dobie. Later she went on to teach in Amarillo, TX, Bowling Green School in Franklinton and finally at Mt. Hermon School until her retirement.
She is preceded in death by her parents John Ott and Grace McNeese Ott, three sisters Mary Virginia Ott, Leah O. Johnson (Delos R. Johnson, Jr.), and Dr. Peggy S. Ott.
Jackie is survived by her beloved husband of 64 years George L. “Joe” Dobie. She is also survived by her three children, Leslie Dobie, Katie Mercer (Shawn Mercer) and David Dobie (Kathy Dobie). She is survived by her wonderful grandchildren Danny Cannatella (Kailyn Henby), Anna Claire Brown (Wesley Brown), Matt Mercer (Emily Rigney), Kimberly A. Conner M. and Emma C. Dobie.
She is also survived by many nieces and nephews, Bruce Dobie (Laura Leigh), Charles Dobie (Dawn), Greg Dobie and Laura Walker (Scott Walker).
A memorial service will be held at the Mount Hermon Methodist Church at 1:00 pm Saturday January 17th. Jackie will later be laid to rest in the Ott Cemetery following a private ceremony for her family.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial donations be sent to Mount Hermon Methodist Church (30428 Spurlock Road, Mt. Hermon, LA, 70450).
Words cannot express the loss that we all feel at the passing of our beloved mother, but we know she is with God in Heaven waiting for our arrival one day.
Crain Funeral Home in Franklinton, Louisiana is in charge of arrangements.
