Donald Mizell
September 22, 1940 - December 30, 2025
Donald Mizell, age 85 and a resident of the Oak Grove Community, passed away Tuesday December 30, 2025 surrounded by his loving family, while at his son’s home in Texas, where he was visiting for the holidays. He was retired after a 42 year career working at the Gaylord/Temple-Inland paper mill in Bogalusa. In retirement, Donald served as a deputy with the Washington Parish Sheriff’s Office for several years. He also served his community as Constable of Ward 6 for 38 years. Donald loved visiting the Great Smoky Mountains and Cade’s Cove and liked watching his favorite wood-working TV shows. He enjoyed listening to bluegrass music and attended many bluegrass festivals, both locally and while on vacation in Tennessee. Donald was a longtime active member of Oak Grove Baptist Church and he always loved meeting his friends and neighbors at the store next to his home, to tell stories, some true, some not, and catch up on current events. He will be forever missed by his family and those that knew him well.
Survived by: Wife of 63 years: Bobbie Thomas Mizell; 2 Sons and a Daughter in law: Scott and Cassi Mizell, Brad Mizell; 7 Grandchildren; 13 Great-grandchildren; Sisters in law and a Brother in law: Martha O’Berry, Mary Smith, Gary Singletary; Also numerous nieces, nephews and many friends
He was preceded in death by his parents Demus Mizell and Zellie Thomas Mizell, brother Doyle Mizell and many other family members.
Visitation will be at Oak Grove Baptist Church Saturday January 10th from 10:00 am until 2:00 pm. A funeral service will be held in the church at 2:00 pm Saturday with Rev. Derek Dantin and Rev. Lynn Martin officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
