Martha Vernell Corkern Seal
May 8, 1930 - January 19, 2026
Martha Vernell Corkern Seal, age 95 and a resident of Amite, passed away Monday morning January 19, 2026 at her home. She was born on May 8, 1930. Vernell was a longtime member of Sharon Missionary Baptist Church where she taught the Ladies Sunday School class. She liked gardening for vegetables and taking care of her pretty flower beds. She was an excellent cook and loved preparing a delicious Sunday dinner for her family, with biscuits, cornbread and the wonderful candied sweet potatoes being just some of their favorites. Vernell enjoyed spending time with her family, often full of laughs, and she received her greatest joy from being with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Survived by: 2 Sons and Daughters in law: Allen and Kathy Seal, Dennis and Anita Seal all of Amite; 5 Grandchildren and Spouses: Kimberly and Hoyt McNabb, Lori and Trey Toups, Brandon and Rebecca Seal, Ryan and Mandy Seal, Aaron Seal; Great-grandchildren: Allison Toups, Brock Toups, Jase Seal, Dane Seal, Brynlee Seal, Holly Seal, Easton McNabb; 2 Sisters: Vicki Loomis, Sue Robertson; Also numerous nieces, nephews and many friends
She was preceded in death by her husband of 68 years Roy Elwood Seal, parents John Corkern and Viola Stephens Corkern, sisters Shirley Holden, Margaret Seal, Barbara Cox, brothers J.Q. Corkern, Alfred Corkern and other family members.
Visitation will be at Crain Funeral Home Friday January 23rd from 10:00 am until 1:00 pm. A funeral service will be held in the funeral home chapel at 1:00 pm Friday with Eld. Terry Robertson, Eld. Brent King and Eld. James Thornhill officiating. Burial will follow in the Sharon Baptist Church Cemetery.
