Obituary

Leonard Daniel Johnson, Sr.

May 29, 1943 - December 16, 2025

"I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith: Henceforth there is laid
up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day…”   II Timothy 4:7-8

Leonard Daniel Johnson Sr., a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and a faithful servant of God.  Leonard was born on May 29, 1943, in New Orleans, Louisiana, to the late Willie Daniel Johnson and Cora Bell Carter. He graduated from George Washington Carver High School, located in New Orleans, LA. Leonard entered eternal rest on December 16, 2025, in Folsom, Louisiana, a place where he was surrounded by the love and legacy he spent a lifetime building.

Leonard dedicated more than 30 years to construction, a trade through which he left a tangible and lasting mark on both infrastructure and community. His work included major projects such as the construction of the Lake Pontchartrain Causeway Bridge, sound barriers along Interstates 10 and 12, and the foundational development of Holmeville Missionary Baptist Church structure. Leonard also devoted many years to the ground keeping and beautification of Greater Payne Chapel AME Church and the Folsom Community Cemetery for many years, work he considered both a calling and a ministry.

A man of unwavering faith, His life in Christ began at Holmeville Missionary Baptist Church where he served faithfully for many years as a deacon along with many other titles. He later became a member of Greater Payne Chapel AME Church, where he served as President of Trustees, Steward, Sunday School Superintendent, and a member of the Sons of Allen. His commitment to service reflected his deep love for God and embodied the true meaning of a pillar of the community. His life was marked by humility, diligence, and a quiet strength that guided his family and inspired all who knew him.

Leonard was united in marriage to Oline G. Johnson, November 12, 1965, with whom he built a strong and loving family. Within this union, God blessed him to be the proud father of seven children:

Marilyn Louise Parker (Warren) New Orleans, LA, Elaine Levette Crewe (Daniel) Boston, MA, Leonard Daniel Johnson, Jr., Folsom, LA, Dana Mariea Alfred (Christopher) Slidell, LA, Bianca Choisette Scott (Reginald Sr.) Columbia, SC, Ryan Lamar Johnson, Sr. (Michelle) Mableton, GA, and Dawn Lynette Johnson, Folsom, LA.

He also lovingly embraced and considered Ralph (Tiger), Precious, Kabren, Jennifer, and Tomias as his own.

Leonard’s legacy continues through his thirteen grandchildren: Willie Magee (Jamie), Alexus Johnson, Alfredo Martinez, Jasmine Crewe, Genesis Crewe, Daniel Alfred, Saron Johnson (Colesiya), Darrion Johnson, Isaiah Johnson, Olivia Scott, Garrett Johnson, Ryan Johnson, Jr., and Josiah Johnson; and six great-grandchildren: Isabella, Benjamin, Bailen, Heavenly, Haven, and Havana.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and his brother, John Carter.

Leonard leaves behind a host of family members, friends, church family, and loved ones who will forever cherish his memory. His life stands as a testimony of faith, hard work, enduring love, and a legacy firmly built on service to God, family, and his community.
