Slidell Bank Robbery Suspect Captured

36-year-old Byron Watson of New Orleans, suspected of committing a bank robbery on November 7, 2025 in Slidell, was taken into custody Wednesday (November 12, 2025) afternoon following a standoff.

Since the robbery of a Fidelity Bank location, Slidell Police Department investigators worked to analyze evidence, review surveillance footage, and track down leads…ultimately identifying the suspect as Watson and a arrest warrant was issued.

During the robbery, the suspect disguised his appearance by wearing a gray tracksuit, a “COVID mask,” neck brace, bucket hat, and clear fanny pack, while carrying a cane and pretending to limp as he entered the establishment. He then passed a note to the bank teller and announced that he was robbing the bank. After stealing an undisclosed amount of money, the suspect fled the scene; this time, without the limp he had previously faked. Investigators believe he fled the area utilizing a vehicle that was parked nearby.

Watson was located at a residence in the Hollygrove area of New Orleans, where he barricaded himself inside as federal authorities attempted to make contact. With assistance from the Federal Bureau of Investigation's SWAT team, Louisiana State Police, and the New Orleans Police Department, Watson peacefully surrendered and was taken into custody without incident.

***All persons are presumed innocent until proven guilty***

The Federal Bureau of Investigation will adopt the case and pursue federal charges against Watson.
