Carolyn June Sims Ferguson
June 30, 1933 - November 16, 2025
Carolyn June Sims Ferguson, age 92, passed away peacefully Sunday night, November 16, at home in the Byrd's Chapel community of Pearl River County, six days after the loss of her beloved husband of 73 years, Gilmer Lee "Gil" Ferguson.
A thrifty homemaker, she was a talented cook whose apple spice cakes, cornbread dressing, and fresh-from-the-garden vegetable dishes were legendary.
She enjoyed the many years she spent working with her friends at Cloth House Fabrics in Bogalusa.
A Master Gardener, there was nothing she couldn't grow.
An avid reader, it was not unusual for her to have three books going simultaneously until her eyesight began to fail. In her final years, audiobooks allowed her to "read". She enjoyed following politics, and maintained a keen mind right to the very end. Family and friends often consulted June to tap into her vast knowledge of family history, particularly the Byrd, Harvey, Ferguson and Lee families.
June was an outstanding mother, grandmother and aunt, and loved nothing better than feeding a house-full of friends and relatives. Her door was always open. June and Gil's annual Christmas Eve parties were legendary and brimming with love.
She is survived by her children, Don (Peggy) Ferguson, Karen (Richard) Strahan, and Scott (Marsha) Ferguson; her grandchildren, Ian (Kelsey) Ferguson, Jacob (Sarah) Ferguson, Brady, Lee and Ashley; great-grandsons Leo and Miles Ferguson; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
A life-long resident of Byrd's Chapel, she was preceded in death by her husband, Gil; parents, E.J. And Bessie Harvey Sims; her dear sister and brother-in-law, Jimmie Louise and Kendall Stockstill; and her youngest child, Robert Alan "Bobby" Ferguson.
A memorial reception will be held on Saturday, November 29, from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m.in the fellowship annex of Byrd's Chapel Methodist Church.
In lieu of flowers, please donate to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital https://www.stjude.org/ or the Byrd’s Chapel Cemetery Fund .
Poole-Ritchie Funeral Home & Crematory in Bogalusa, Louisiana is in charge of arrangements.
