Obituary

Terry Penton

January 10, 1963 - November 8, 2025

Terry Penton was born and raised in Bogalusa to James and Jerrvonne Penton. He was the youngest of six siblings.

He is preceded in death by his parents; and three brothers, James Jr., Gerald, and Johnny Penton.

He leaves to mourn his brother, Dennis Penton (Atlanta, GA) and his sister, Janice P. Hilaire (Bogalusa, LA), and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Anonymous Journal Entry:

During my bible study this morning, GOD led me to Isaiah 61:3, which speaks of turning grief into joy and despair into festivities. This reminds me of Terry in so many ways.

Terry would want us to feel relief because he can finally lay his burden down and walk with GOD, finally experiencing the lightness of His yoke rather than the heaviness of his sin.

Terry has lived a life that can be compared to an oak tree. They are both tall, strong, and support other life. They live under extreme circumstances and yet prevail. Oak trees are a vital part of the ecosystem, just as T.P. is a vital part of our family. They are both durable, useful, and referred to as symbols of wisdom and power. While the oak tree has a culture and symbolic significance of strength, power, and endurance, Terry’s life also has a culture and symbolic significance of durability, longevity, and usefulness. Both T.P. and oak trees have deep roots, strong, quiet power, and represent the potential that great things can come from humble beginnings.

As I reflect on Terry’s life, there are so many lessons, laughter, and moments of ease. It makes me wonder if we are chasing the wrong things. His knowledge went beyond a textbook or a school building; he possessed the knowledge of life.

A visitation will be held on Saturday, November 15, 2025 from 10:00AM - 11:00AM followed by the funeral service at 11:00AM at Thirkield United Methodist Church 1108 Donnell Street Bogalusa, Louisiana 70427 with Pastor Nolan Robinson - Officiating.
