Gilmer "Gil" Lee Ferguson
October 29, 1931 - November 10, 2025
Gilmer Lee (Gil) Ferguson, life-time resident of the Byrd’s Chapel community, passed away peacefully the morning of Monday, November 10, 2025 just days after his 94th birthday on October 29. He enjoyed that last slice of cake!
A long-time banker in Bogalusa, master gardener (until the bitter end) and avid, enthusiastic golfer until his mid-80’s, Papaw lived an active, happy and good life touching all of us through his kindness, strength, good judgement and wit. He will be missed by everyone who had the good fortune to know him.
Gil is survived by his wife of 73 years and childhood sweetheart, Carolyn June Sims Ferguson, also a life-long resident of the Byrd’s Chapel community. In addition to June, Gil is survived by 3 children - Don (Peggy), Karen Strahan (Richard) and Scott (Marsha) and was preceded in death by his youngest child, Bobby. Papaw was an exceptional grandfather and will always be remembered and loved by his grandchildren, Ashley, Ian, Jacob, Brady and Lee and great-grandchildren Landon, Laney, Leo and Miles.
The stories are many and the memories are everlasting. Gil made an impact on this earth and we are forever thankful to be part of his family.
In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital https://www.stjude.org/ or the Byrd’s Chapel Cemetery Fund . A memorial service will be held at a later date.
