Tax Renewals on October 11th Ballot - Why These Renewals Matter

We are investing in the foundations of Washington Parish. From roads and health services to libraries and public buildings, these four millages support everyday services that keep Washington Parish connected, safe, and functioning. Voters will see these millages on the October 11 ballot. Because they are renewals, not new taxes, they continue long-standing sources of funding.

  • Parish Courthouse and Public Buildings – 1.03 mills. This renewal supports the maintenance of public buildings such as the Courthouse, the Sheriff’s Office, the Parish Jail & more. Funds cover repairs and maintenance for plumbing, HVAC systems, and electrical infrastructure – ensuring these public spaces remain safe, functional, and ready to serve the community.

  • Parish Roads – 4.13 mills. Washington Parish Government is responsible for maintaining almost 1,000 miles of rural roads. In the past decade, nearly 300 miles of parish roads have been resurfaced. Safe roads = safe schools, businesses, & emergency response.

  • Parish Health Units – 3.11 mills. Health units located in Bogalusa and Franklinton offer affordable healthcare and preventative services.  No one is turned away. Immunizations - Nutrition & WIC - Women’s health - Public safety inspections. Patient visits grew by 25% in the past year, showing how critical these units are to our communities.

  • Parish Libraries – 4.6 mills. Our public libraries welcome more than 62,000 visitors each year.  They provide: • Free computer and internet access for those without reliable home service, • Laptop and hotspot lending programs, • Story times, reading programs, and youth activities, • Genealogy research and parish history preservation, • State park pass checkouts and community service. Branches in Franklinton, Bogalusa, Enon and Thomas help residents of all ages stay connected and learning.
