Lucious J. Burnett
November 9, 1944 - October 16, 2025
I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith.
Lucious J. Burnett was the seventh of nine children to the late Payton Burnett, Sr. and Minnie James Burnett born in Picayune, MS on November 9, 1944.
Lucious was a beloved father, husband, brother, friend, and a passionate cook. He passed away peacefully on Thursday, October 16, 2025 at the age of 80 after a long battle with cancer.
From a young age, LJ carried responsibilities far beyond his years. Life required him to grow up quickly, and he met every challenge with determination and courage. Whether it was working to support himself or learning to navigate the world without a safety net, he stood tall, unshaken and unafraid. That early independence became the foundation of a life built on integrity, hard work, and unwavering dedication.
As a father, he passed on those values to his children, not through words, but through example. He taught us what it meant to work hard, to stand on our own two feet, and to never give up, even when the road was difficult. He may not have had an easy start, but he gave us the best he had, ALWAYS.
As a skilled construction worker, LJ took immense pride in his craft. His attention to detail, patience, and commitment to preserving the integrity of every project made him a trusted professional to many. His approach to the work was grounded in deep sense of responsibility and a commitment to doing things right the first time. He was successful in this career for over 30+ years.
