Edward O'Neil "Neil" Martin
November 15, 1951 - October 21, 2025
Edward O'Neil "Neil" Martin, age 73 and a resident of the Stateline Community, passed away peacefully Tuesday morning October 21, 2025 at his home. He worked as a diesel mechanic for many years at Bateman’s Diesel in Franklinton and most recently served as a foreman at Johnny’s Diesel Service in Metairie before retiring. Neil was a longtime active member of Crain’s Creek Missionary Baptist Church and attended Pine Missionary Baptist Church. He loved hunting, fishing and spending time in the outdoors. Neil enjoyed woodworking, sawing lumber and going on family vacations to the Great Smoky Mountains. He was a good cook and all his delicious desserts were a favorite of everyone. Neil loved spending time with his grandchildren and family and he had a special place in his heart for his pet dog “Riley”.
Survived by: Wife of 54 years: Emily B. Martin of Stateline; Son and Daughter in law: Johnny Edward “Eddie” Martin and Melissa Freeman of Stateline; Daughter: Maryann Martin Sapp of Stateline; 2 Grandchildren: Ulrik Sapp, Isabella Sapp; Brothers in law and Sisters in law: John R. Bufkin, Jr. and Wilda Bufkin, Brian and Pam Bufkin, Kevin Bufkin; Also numerous nieces, nephews and cousins
He was preceded in death by son in law Randal “Randy” Sapp, parents Edward Martin and Freda McNeese Martin, sister and brother in law Wilda and Bo Abernathy, father in law and mother in law John R. Bufkin, Sr. and Marion Rita Bufkin, sister in law Barbara James, brother in law and sister in law Dennis and Mary Lou Bufkin and other family members.
A graveside funeral service will be held at 11:00 am Thursday October 23rd in the Brooks-Martin Cemetery with Eld. Adam Luper and Eld. Edward Penton officiating.
In lieu of flowers, the family prefers memorial donations to help with final expenses.
Crain Funeral Home in Franklinton, Louisiana is in charge of arrangements.
