Barbara Hughey McMillan

Barbara Hughey McMillan, age 90 and a resident of Franklinton, passed away Wednesday morning October 15, 2025 at her home following a lengthy illness. She was born on August 30, 1935 and grew up in Smithdale, Mississippi before attending Louisiana State University. Barbara received her Bachelor’s Degree in Home Economics and later obtained a Master’s Degree from Auburn University. She and her husband, Dr. Aubrey “Mac” McMillan, moved to Franklinton in the early 1960s to begin his career as a veterinarian and to raise their family. Together, they were charter members of Hillcrest Baptist Church, where she taught Adult Women’s Sunday School classes for over 50 years. When she ultimately retired from teaching, Barbara was recognized by her church family, receiving a plaque for her dedicated service. She was a longtime member of the Franklinton Woman’s Club and the Waverly Club. Barbara was a truly dedicated mother and grandmother, often cooking delicious family meals and attending all their activities and sporting events. She traveled many times to Austin, Texas to spend time with her family there. Barbara was a loving wife to Dr. “Mac” for over 50 years and a caring mother and grandmother that cherished all the time the family spent together.
Survived by: 2 Daughters and Sons in law: Marilyn McMillan McGahan and Robert McGahan of Austin, Brooke McMillan Moody and Scott Moody of Franklinton; 3 Grandchildren and a Spouse: Caroline and Daniel Lindahl, Emily McGahan, Reagan Moody
She was preceded in death by an infant daughter Ann McMillan, her husband Aubrey Lee McMillan, parents Britte Hughey and Norma Williams Hughey, father in law and mother in law Ulyss and Alta McMillan and other family members.
The family wishes to express a sincere thank you to her compassionate caregivers for their loving support during the last several years, Ruby Tate, Donna Sanders, Thannie Conerly, Toni Williams, Barbara Bickham.
Barbara will be laid to rest next to her husband in Ellis Cemetery following a private family ceremony.
In lieu of flowers, the family prefers memorial donations to Hillcrest Baptist Church (2201 Washington Street, Franklinton, LA 70438).
