Carla Stewart Holifield

Carla Stewart Holifield, age 63, passed away on August 30, 2025, in Bogalusa, Louisiana. Born on December 18, 1961, in the same city, Carla’s life was rooted in the community that first welcomed her into the world.

Carla dedicated much of her professional life to serving others through her work at the University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson, Mississippi. Over the course of 27 years as an HR Business Partner, she supported countless colleagues and helped shape a compassionate workplace environment. Her retirement marked the close of a distinguished career defined by dedication and integrity.

She was a devoted mother to her daughter Ashley Roberson (Jason), and sons Randy Bertoniere (Jennifer) and Aaron Bertoniere (Jessica). Carla also cherished her role as a grandmother to numerous grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Her love for family extended deeply to her siblings—Marilyn Knight, Wanda Penny, Amanda Woodward, and Tommy Stewart—who shared in the joys and challenges of life with her. Her best friend, Christy Hough, remained a constant presence and source of strength throughout the years.

Carla was preceded in death by her parents, Barbara Louella Smith and James Howard Stewart. Their memory lived on through Carla’s enduring kindness and warmth—a legacy she carried forward with grace.

Those who knew Carla remember her as one of the kindest souls they had ever met. Her gentle spirit left an indelible mark on everyone fortunate enough to cross her path.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Batson Children’s Hospital in Jackson, Mississippi—a cause close to Carla’s heart.
