Coroner ID's Body as Missing Boater

St. Tammany Parish Coroner Dr. Christopher Tape has positively identified the man whose body was pulled from Lake Pontchartrain on September 3, 2025 as the missing boater whose vessel crashed into the Causeway on August 31, 2025. Philippe G. Lannelongue, age 58 and of Kenner, died of drowning, Tape determined.  The Coroner has ruled the Manner of Death as accidental.

The St. Tammany Parish Sheriff's Office reported Wednesday (September 3, 2025) afternoon, that a boater located a body in Lake Pontchartrain. On August 31, 2025, a sailboat struck the Causeway near mile marker 14. A male and a female were onboard when the incident occurred. The male went overboard and the female was rescued from the vessel by the U.S. Coast Guard. Rescue and recovery efforts began to find the male by STPSO Marine Division, Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries, Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office and the U.S. Coast Guard.

Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries reports that the body was found near Manchac and turned over to the Tangipahoa Parish Coroner’s Office who then transferred him to the St. Tammany Parish Coroner’s Office to determine an official cause of death.
