Around 4:00 AM on September 3, 2025, the Ponchatoula Police Department contacted the Louisiana Office of State Fire Marshal for assistance in investigating an early morning house fire in the area of Eight Street Drive in Ponchatoula. Investigators determined the fire was the result of arson. No one was present inside the residence at the time, but a beloved family pet perished in the fire.
Around 2:00 PM, information was obtained by detectives that the suspect was traveling south on Rufus Bankston Road in Hammond, LA. With assistance from Fire Marshal investigators and Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff's Office deputies, Ponchatoula Police Department detectives placed 25-year-old Bryce Travis Martin in custody.
Martin later reportedly confessed to several crimes, including setting the fire that destroyed the home. Martin was transported to the Tangipahoa Parish Jail and booked on the charges of Stalking, Violations of Protective Orders, and Nonconsensual disclosure of a private image. Fire Marshal Investigators also booked Martin for Aggravated Arson and Aggravated Animal Cruelty.
