Tropical Disturbances Today

Disturbance 1. Off the Southeastern United States:  A broad area of low pressure is forecast to develop in a couple of days a few hundred miles off the coast of the southeastern United States. Some gradual development of this system is possible during the middle or latter portion of this week as the system drifts slowly westward to northwestward. Formation chance through 48 hours...low...near 0 percent and formation chance through 7 days...low...30 percent.

Disturbance 2. Tropical Storm Dexter is forecast to move away from the U.S. coast and stay north of Bermuda. No local impacts expected for our area. Dexter is located about 255 miles northwest of Bermuda moving ENE at 12 MPH with 45 MPH maximum sustained winds. There are no coastal watches or warnings in effect. Dexter is likely to become post-tropical by Wednesday.

Disturbance 3. Central Tropical Atlantic:  A tropical wave moving off the west coast of Africa is currently producing only limited shower activity. In a few days, environmental conditions are forecast to become favorable for gradual development of this system, and a tropical depression could form by the latter portion of this week as it moves generally west-northwestward across the central tropical Atlantic. Formation chance through 48 hours...low...near 0 percent and formation chance through 7 days...medium...50 percent.
