Tropical Disturbances Today

Disturbance 1. Northwestern Atlantic:  A broad and weak area of low pressure is  located off the coast of North Carolina. Some slight development of this system is possible over the next day or two while it moves little over the warm waters of the Gulf Stream. By Monday, environmental conditions are expected to become unfavorable for further development. Formation chance through 48 hours...low...10 percent and formation chance through 7 days...low...10 percent.

Disturbance 2. Hurricane Erin is a Category 4 and continues to rapidly intensify. The eye has wobbled westward during the past few hours. Erin is currently located about 120 miles NE of Anguilla moving WNW at 20 MPH with 145 MPH maximum sustained winds. A turn toward the north is expected to occur early next week. On the forecast track, the center of Erin is expected to move just north of the northern Leeward Islands, the Virgin Islands, and Puerto Rico over the weekend.
