Disturbance 1. Eastern Tropical Atlantic (AL97): A tropical wave (shown in red) is located just to the southeast of the Cabo Verde Islands. Environmental conditions appear conducive for further development of this system, and a tropical depression is likely to form by the middle to latter portion of this week while moving west-northwestward at 15 to 20 mph across the eastern and central tropical Atlantic. Formation chance through 48 hours...low...30 percent and formation chance through 7 days...high...80 percent.
Disturbance 2. Central Atlantic (AL96): A trough of low pressure (shown in yellow) is located over the central tropical Atlantic. Development of this system should be slow to occur during the next couple of days due to surrounding dry air, but some gradual development is possible during the middle part of this week while the system moves northward over the central Atlantic. Formation chance through 48 hours...low...10 percent and formation chance through 7 days...low...20 percent.
