Erma Dean Brumfield Carson

October 1, 1940 - August 1, 2025

Erma Dean Brumfield entered this world on October 1, 1941, to the late Hermon & Mae Ella Brumfield. She departed this life on Friday, August 1,2025 at 3p.m. at the Good Samaritan Living Center. 

Erma (better known as Dean) joined Mt. Olive MBC under the leadership of the late Dr. Willard Vernon and under his leadership she served in various ministries such as the recording and Financial Secretary for the church, Sunday School Secretary, Senior Choir and the Senior Mission Department Secretary. Sister Erma united in holy matrimony to Charles Carson for 23 years. During this time, she joined the Seventh-day Adventist church in Columbia, MS where ordained as an elder of the church and served with the women ministry department.

Years later, after the passing of her husband, she reunited back to Mt. Olive, where she was a very faithful and dedicated member. Sis. Erma was a diligent worker; she worked day and night day as a cook & housekeeper to provide for her children. Sis. Erma wanted a better life, so she enrolled in the Washington Parish Vocational Training Center to further her education as a Nursing Assistant. She was employed by Heritage Manor Nursing Home of Franklinton for 15 years. 

Erma loved to entertain her family, friends, and church family. She also loved to gather friends and family on her patio where she would gather everyone to feast on her soulful cooking. She was known for cooking one of her famous dishes (chicken dumplings) for her brother James and others. 

She leaves to cherish many precious memories of her sons Nathan (Barbara) Walker, Mark (Rose) Carson, & Charles Carson of Terre Haute IN. Her daughters, Sandra & Francis Walker of Memphis, TN, Cheryl (Billy) Tyler of Terre Haute, IN; seven grandchildren, Andre’ Walker of Fort Worth, TX, Blake & Dajenelle Walker, Marquis Clark, Sandy Carson of New Orleans, Toi and BJ (Terre Haute); four brothers, James (Clodean) Brumfield of Mt. Hermon, LA, Charles (Lena) Brumfield of Kentwood LA, Oliver Earl Brumfield of Mt. Hermon, LA, Gregory Brumfield of New Orleans; bonus family, Quincy Walker, Irena James, Wyuonell Carter and  the Walker family. A host nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Preceded in death by her husband, Charles Carson; her parents, Hermon & Mae Ella Brumfield; three sons, Dennis Walker, Preston Carson, Michael Carson; one daughter, Sharon Carson; two brothers, Willie & Delmas Brumfield; four sisters, Lucretia Briggs, Maxine Brumfield, Minnie Marshall, and Aubrey Taylor.

A visitation will be held on Saturday, August 9, 2025 from 11:00AM - 1:00PM followed by the funeral service at 1:00PM at Mt. Olive Missionary Baptist Church with Rev. Kenneth Saulsberry, Sr. - Pastor Officiating. Interment will be held at Mt. Olive Cemetery. 

Crain and Sons Funeral Home - Franklinton are in charge of arrangements.
