The Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff’s Office (TPSO) has arrested Johnathan Newman, age 40 and from the Kentwood area, and booked him on the charges of Stalking, Reckless Operation of a Vehicle, and Obstructing Highways of Commerce.
Earlier this week, a woman reported driving along Highway 38 in the Kentwood area when she came across a vehicle parked across both lanes of the road. When she stopped, she reported that a man exited the vehicle and began walking toward her. When she backed up and turned around to drive back the way she came, he got into his vehicle and began chasing her. The woman reported the pursuit pushed her to speeds in excess of 100 mph to try to avoid the man crashing into her. The victim was eventually able to escape the pursuit and contacted TPSO.
Through the investigation, Newman, who has no association with the victim, was identified as the suspect. He was taken into custody the next day.
This investigation is ongoing as deputies look into other similar claims in the area. If you have a recent experience like this in the Kentwood area, contact TPSO’s Criminal Investigations Division at 985-345-6150.
