Patricia Ann Hemphill Benson

October 21, 1945 - July 17, 2025

Patricia Ann Hemphill Benson, age 79 and a resident of Mobile, AL and a former resident of Bogalusa, LA, was born on October 21, 1945, passed away on July 17, 2025, in Mobile, Al.

Patricia was a nurse for over 50 years, working as an ICU nurse for St Tammany Parish Hospital, and she was Director of Nurses at Bogalusa Medical Center and owned Family Home Health for many years.

Patricia was a devoted advocate for patients and families’ well-being and a tireless supporter of those in need. Known for her unwavering strength, compassion and fierce advocacy, she dedicated her life to working to uplift and care for others.  

Whether through her love for family, her nursing practice, her work as a pioneer in local home health care, or by just being a friend, Patricia made a lasting impact on countless lives. Her legacy is one of kindness, service, and supporting her family and community.  

She will be remembered not only for her contributions, but for her warmth, generosity, and strength of spirit.

Patricia is survived by her husband Phil Benson of Mobile, AL; her daughter Tammy Hemphill of Bogalusa, LA; her sons Matthew and Noah Hemphill of Bogalusa, LA; her sister Christine Anderson (Mark); grandchildren Arianna Jones and two great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews and cousins that she loved so much.

She is preceded in death by her first husband Michael Hemphill; a son Aron Hemphill grandmother Bryl Parker “Big Momma”; grandfather Ralph Provost, mother Hershel Kirkland; father Joe Kirkland; sisters Aline Kirkland, Brenda Singletary (Cecil), Charlotte Parker (Ken), Cindy Schuffler (Junior).

Visitation will be held on Monday July 21, 2025, at Poole-Ritchie Funeral Home from 10:00a.m. until the service time of 2: 00 p.m., The Rev. Paul Corse will officiate, and interment will follow in Ponemah Cemetery.
