Mrs. Nell Blackmon, age 76, passed away peacefully on June 17, 2025, in Covington, Louisiana. Born on September 8, 1948, in Kokomo, Mississippi, she lived a life marked by devotion to her family, her faith, and her community.
Nell was the daughter of Hollis R. Stogner and Allice M. Terrell. She grew up in Kokomo and began her education at Kokomo Elementary School before continuing at Superior Avenue Junior High School and graduating from Franklinton High School. Her early years laid the foundation for a life characterized by resilience, determination, and a deep sense of purpose.
Throughout her life, Nell was known for her strong will and kind heart. She was never afraid to speak her mind and stood firm in her beliefs. At the same time, she extended warmth and generosity to those around her. These qualities served her well as she built a successful career owning and operating a housekeeping service—a testament to her work ethic and entrepreneurial spirit.
Faith played a central role in Nell’s life. A devoted member of the United Pentecostal Church, she always put God first in everything she did. Her love for singing and praising God was evident to all who knew her; worship was not just a part of her routine—it was woven into the fabric of who she was.
Nell also found great joy in gardening. Whether tending to flowers or cultivating vegetables, she cherished the time spent nurturing life from the soil—an extension of the care she gave so freely to others.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Roger E. Blackmon; her parents; her sister Wilda Landry; and a cherished great-great-granddaughter, Madilynn E. Williamson.
Nell leaves behind a loving legacy through her children: Connie Blackmon; Roger E. Blackmon Jr., affectionately known as “Sonny,” and his wife Jackie B. Blackmon; and Cynthia B. Spears “Cyndi” and her husband Micheal Spears. She was blessed with nine grandchildren, twenty great-grandchildren, and seven great-great-grandchildren who will carry forward memories of her strength and love.
She is also survived by four brothers, one sister, and a host of extended family members and friends whose lives were touched by her presence.
A woman of unwavering faith and enduring love for those around her, Nell Blackmon will be deeply missed but fondly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
May her memory bring comfort to those who knew and loved her.
Nell's funeral service will be held at Turnage Chapel Methodist Church on Thursday, June 19, 2025 at 3:00 pm. Burial will follow in church cemetery.
