Jacob Luther "J.L." Sharp
April 24, 1941 - June 6, 2025
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Jacob Luther Sharp, age 84, who left this world on June 6, 2025, in Baton Rouge, LA, at Our Lady of the Lake Hospital. Born on April 24, 1941, J.L. was a lifelong resident of the Isabel community, where he and his loving wife, Eugenie “Sue” Sharp made their home, raised their family, and shared 58 years together.
J.L. proudly served his country as a veteran of the United States Air Force. He also worked as a dredge operator for many years at TXI and later as a greeter with the Covington Walmart. An avid gardener, he found joy in riding his tractor, tilling the earth, and sharing his labors with his family. Evenings were often spent in the comfort of his favorite armchair where he enjoyed watching classic shows like Gunsmoke and Bonanza. Above all, J.L.’s greatest pride came from his family. Anyone who spent much time around J.L. knew he had a unique sense of humor and was well known as a prankster. He will be dearly missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew him.
He was a loving father to his three daughters: Davi Lynn Tassin (David), Jackie Dixon (Al) and Chrissy Varnado (Brandon). The joy in his life increased with the addition of each of his grandchildren: Cody Sharp, Gabby Jarrell, Ethan Dixon, Chase Tassin, Elijah Dixon, Abby Timmins, and Grace Dixon, along with his dear great-grandchildren: Oliver, Lincoln, Harrison, and Ruth. They were truly the gleam in his eye, and he cherished each moment spent with them.
He was preceded in death by his parents Nathan and Alda (Mizell) Sharp, his brother Everette Sharp and three sisters, Beulah Enman, Ruby Jean Evans and Caroleen Johnson.
Funeral services will be held at Brown-McGehee Funeral Home, with visitation starting in the funeral home chapel on Thursday, June 12, 2025, from 5 PM to 9 PM. Visitation will resume on Friday, June 13, 2025, at 10 AM until the time of service at 12 PM. Jacob will receive military honors, followed by interment at Mizell Cemetery in the Isabel community, where he will be laid to rest surrounded by the beauty of nature he so loved.
The family is grateful for the support of their community during this difficult time. Active pallbearers will include David Tassin, Al Dixon III, Brandon Varnado, Cody Sharp, Chase Tassin, and Elijah Dixon. Honorary pallbearers, who will proudly serve the family are Jeff Enman, Roger Dutruch, Jim Johnson, Delos Brumfield and Lavert Mizell.
Jacob’s memory will forever remain in the hearts of those who loved him, and his legacy will continue in the lives of his family and friends.
