Pauline "Polly" Viola Coleman Carter

December 13, 1942 - May 31, 2025

Pauline "Polly" Viola Coleman Carter, age 82, passed away peacefully in her home surrounded by her family on May 30, 2025. She was a beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.

Polly was born in Orange, TX in 1942 to Lorain Dwight Coleman and Myrtle Doris McNeese Coleman, and grew up in Baton Rouge, graduating from Istrouma High School. 

She was preceded in death by her parents, her two sisters, Cathy Ann Coleman Kable and Elizabeth Lorraine Coleman and an infant son, Dewayne Lee Carter. 

She is survived by her husband of 64 years, Alfred Roland Carter, Jr of Walker, La; daughter and son-in-law, Lisa Celeste and Gary Andrus of Tyler, Tx; son and daughter-in-law, David K. Carter Sr and Dawn Haase of Baton Rouge, La., and daughter and son-in-law, Kellie Lorraine and Tim Baker of Denham Springs, La; 5 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren and beloved niece, Tracy York Belleu.

Married to a career military spouse, Polly lived in several places around the country, after retirement settling in Mt. Hermon, and later moving to Franklinton, LA. She was active in Centenary United Methodist Church in Franklinton and Franklinton Area Community Theater. Polly cherished her time at the Washington Parish Free Fair Mile Branch Settlement sharing local history, in character and periodic dress. She loved horseback riding and working with special needs children and adults at the Happy Trails Therapeutic Horsemanship Center. The last few years of her life were spent in Walker, LA where she attended Watson Baptist Church.

Services will be held Saturday, June 7th at Crain Funeral Home (1109 Bene Street, Franklinton, LA). Visitation is from 10am – 2pm with services at 2pm. Burial to follow at the Ott family cemetery in Mt. Hermon, LA.
