Emma Lou Smith

October 16, 1937 - June 14, 2025

Emma Lou Smith, age 87 and a resident of the Mount Hermon Community, passed away Saturday afternoon June 14, 2025 at Lakeview Regional Medical Center. She was a Class of 1957 graduate of Mt. Hermon High School and later graduated from Spencer Business College in Baton Rouge. Emma served as a customer service representative with Moore & Jenkins Insurance in Franklinton for many years before retiring. She loved working in the outdoors, planting a nice garden each season and taking care of her cows and pigs. Emma was a longtime member of Bogue Chitto Baptist Church where she sang in the church choir and helped with meals and special events. She always enjoyed spending time with her family and friends.

Survived by: 2 Sisters: Glenda Smith Givens, Anita Creel Dryman; Also survived by many beloved nieces, nephews and their families

She was preceded in death by her father Howard Smith, mother and step-father Mae Fisher Smith Creel and William “Bill” Creel, brother Bobby Joe Smith, and an infant brother Howard Oakley Smith.

Visitation will be at Crain Funeral Home Tuesday June 17th from 9:00 am until 11:00 am, A funeral service will be held in the funeral home chapel at 11:00 am Tuesday with Rev. Calvin Crowe, Rev. David Jenkins and Rev. Marcus Rosa officiating. Burial will follow in the Bethel Baptist Church Cemetery.
