Shortly after midnight on Monday (June 16, 2025), Slidell Police Department officers responded to a 911 hang-up call at a residence in the 3600 block of Riviera Drive. Upon arrival, officers encountered a domestic disturbance occurring between a male and female in the driveway.
As officers attempted to speak with the female, the male suspect, identified as 39-year-old Corey Griffin of Vicksburg, MS., produced a firearm and fired at responding officers. Griffin then retreated into the residence, where it was discovered that the victim’s young child was inside. *Note* Griffin fired at least two rounds. Due to the circumstances, the officer’s surroundings, and the how quickly things transpired, officers did not return fire. Fortunately, no one injured.
Officers quickly established a secure perimeter around the residence and surrounding area. Given the dangerous nature of the incident, the SPD activated the SWAT team, K-9 division and Drone team.
Within minutes, the SPD SWAT team made entry into the home, where they located the child safely asleep. The child was removed from the residence and brought to a secure location. It was then determined that Griffin had fled the scene through the backyard, immediately following the initial shooting incident.
The Drone team launched an aerial search while K-9 officers began tracking Griffin’s scent through a nearby patch of woods. The drone team ultimately located Griffin attempting to flee on foot through nearby residential backyards. Officers converged on the area and located Griffin hiding in the rear seat of an abandoned vehicle. He was taken into custody without further incident.
