Washington Parish Sheriff's Office Presents Scholarships

On Sunday, May 4, Sheriff Smith presented the Sheriff Jason Smith Charities Future Leader Award to graduating senior Kara Courtney of Bowling Green School. The award was accompanied by a $250 academic scholarship and was awarded based on hard work, leadership, and contributions to the community. Congratulations to Kara Courtney, and best of luck as you transition to college in the fall. 

On Tuesday, May 6, Chief Kyle Varnado of the Washington Parish Sheriff’s Office presented two scholarships to graduating seniors from Pine High School. Lance Wilson was presented with the
Future Leader Award from Sheriff Jason Smith Charities, which was accompanied by a $250 academic scholarship. Lance will be attending Louisiana Tech University in the fall to study engineering. Maggie Lyons was presented with the Louisiana Sheriff’s Association Honorary Member Scholarship award, which was accompanied by a $1000 academic scholarship. Maggie will be attending Southeastern Louisiana University in the fall and plans to study nursing, eventually specializing in neonatal care.

On Tuesday, May 6, District Two Commander Captain Terry Harris of the Washington Parish Sheriff’s Office presented the Future Leader Award from Sheriff Jason Smith Charities to graduating senior Cheyann Touchstone of Varnado High School. The award was accompanied by a $250 academic scholarship, and the recipient was chosen based on work ethic, leadership, and contributions to the community. Congratulations to Cheyann Touchstone, and good luck as you transition to college this fall.

The award was accompanied by a $250 academic scholarship, and the recipient was chosen based on work ethic, leadership, and contributions to the community. Congratulations to Kaleb Thompson, and best of luck as you transition to college this fall. 


On Thursday, May 8, District Five Commander Captain Corbet Hunt presented the Future Leader Award from Sheriff Jason Smith Charities to
graduating senior Emma Simmons at Ben’s Ford Christian School. The award was accompanied by a $250 academic scholarship, and the recipient was chosen based on work ethic, leadership, and contributions to the community. Congratulations to Emma Simmons, and best of luck as you transition to college this fall.
