Two Convicted of Murder in Connection with Overdose Death of 15 Year-Old Bush Girl

St. Tammany Parish Sheriff Randy Smith has reported on the convictions of 23 year-old Alvin Laurant, a Covington drug dealer, and 43 year-old Felisia Grantham, a family member of a 15 year-old Bush girl who died from a fentanyl overdose on July 12, 2022. In December of 2024, Grantham was convicted by a jury for Second-degree murder, and on Thursday (May 8, 2025) a jury found Laurant guilty of Second-degree murder in the connection with death of the teen.

St. Tammany Parish Sheriff Randy Smith said these convictions are big wins for his department and are a testament to his dedication to hold drug dealers responsible when someone dies from the drugs they provided.

Through their investigation into the death, STPSO Major Crimes detectives learned the teen’s family member, Felisia Grantham, her 17-year-old daughter and the deceased had met with a drug dealer on that day to purchase fentanyl pills. Upon returning to Grantham’s residence, all three parties ingested the purchased narcotics. Not long after, the decedent was observed purple in color and not breathing, and responding medical personnel pronounced her deceased.

Autopsy and toxicology results proved that the teen died from “Fentanyl Toxicity.”

Through evidence collected and numerous interviews conducted, STPSO Major Crimes detectives learned that Covington drug dealer Alvin Laurant was the individual who sold the deadly drugs to the 15-year-old and her family members, and pills matching those taken by the teen just prior to her death were located during a search of Laurant’s residence.

With that information, both Grantham and Laurant were arrested based on a law that holds those that provided the drugs responsible in the case of an overdose death. Click here for that previous story

“I applaud the work of the detectives in our Major Crimes Division who worked tirelessly to track down the source of the drugs who killed this local teen and to gather the evidence needed to secure an arrest and a ultimate conviction of the persons responsible,” Sheriff Smith said. “While these convictions do not bring back the life lost, they do ensure the persons responsible will he held accountable.”

“Let these convictions also serve as a message to those dealing drugs in our parish,” Sheriff Smith added. “Drug dealers and their accomplices CAN and WILL be charged with murder if the drugs they provide results in someone’s death.”
