Detectives with the St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s Office Narcotics Unit arrested 30 year-old Derwin Alexander and 33 year-old Robert Garrett, Jr., both from New Orleans. The two were arrested on March 26, 2025, accused of selling drugs in the Slidell area, following an investigation that began in February.
The two were located on March 26th at a gas station on Oak Harbor Boulevard, and they were taken into custody. A search of the pair and the white Chevrolet Silverado truck they were driving, led to the discovery and seizure of crack cocaine, marijuana, unlawfully possessed Tapentadol pills, Fentanyl powder, assorted drug paraphernalia and a stolen handgun.
Both Alexander and Garrett had prior felony convictions related to gun and drug possession, prohibiting them from legally possessing firearms.
In total during the more than two-month-long investigation, detectives seized 143.5 grams of marijuana, 6.6 grams of crack cocaine, 10 units of Tapentadol and more than 48 grams of Fentanyl.
Both Alexander and Garrett were booked into the St. Tammany Parish Correctional Center on the charges of Distribution of a Schedule II Controlled Dangerous Substance (Fentanyl), Possession with the Intent to Distribute a Schedule II Controlled Dangerous Substance (Crack Cocaine), Possession with the Intent to Distribute a Schedule I Controlled Dangerous Substance (Marijuana), Possession with the Intent to Distribute a Schedule II Controlled Dangerous Substance (Tapentadol), Possession of a Stolen Firearm, Possession of a Firearm in the Presence of a Controlled Dangerous Substance, Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon, and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.“Here in St. Tammany we arrest drug dealers,” Sheriff Randy Smith said. “That kind of criminal behavior is not tolerated here. Let this be a message to drug dealers who think they are going to come to St. Tammany to do their business. You will be arrested.”
