Carolyn Merritt Higgins

December 16, 1935 - March 20, 2025

Carolyn Merritt Higgins, age 89 and a resident of Mount Hermon, passed away Thursday afternoon March 20, 2025 at Lakeview Regional Medical Center after a brief illness. She was a longtime active member of Mount Hermon Baptist Church. Carolyn served her church family in the nursery for many years and she always loved caring for the young children. She enjoyed gardening, canning vegetables and making jellies, including delicious mayhaw and blueberry. Carolyn was an excellent cook, with the deserts, like her wonderful strawberry cake, being just some of the family favorites. She enjoyed watching the birds that visited her property every day and taking care of her beloved pets. Carolyn always cherished the time spent with her family and closest friends.

Survived by: 2 Daughters and Sons in law: Linda Higgins Hotard and Warren Hotard of Madisonville, Janet Higgins Roper and David Roper of Mt. Hermon; Son and Daughter in law: Walton and Laurie Higgins of Wiggins, MS; Grandchildren: Audrey Hotard, Aaron Hotard; Also numerous extended family members and many friends

She was preceded in death by her husband Glen L. Higgins, parents Frank Merritt and Thelma Bacot Higgins and other family members.

Visitation will be at Mount Hermon Baptist Church (36126 Hwy. 38, Mt. Hermon) on Saturday March 22nd from 12:00 pm until 2:00 pm. A funeral service will be held in the church at 2:00 pm Saturday with Rev. Ray Wuerzer officiating. Burial will follow in the Roberts Cemetery.
