Howard "West" Vaughan
March 21, 1966 - March 2, 2025
Howard West Vaughan, age 58 and of Bogalusa, Louisiana, passed away on Sunday, March 2nd, at home.
West was born on March 21, 1966, in Arlington, Texas, to Josephine and Howard Vaughan. He was a beloved husband to Vicki Boyt Vaughan, a proud father to Remington Lestat Vaughan, and is survived by his sisters, Julie Austin and Laura Chalmers, and his nieces, Taylor, Kendall, and Brenna. He is also survived by his mother-in-law, Bobbye Moore, his daughter-in-law, Ivy Collier, and two of his best friends, Jonathan Byerly and Chris Waller. He was preceded in death by both of his parents.
West graduated from the University of Texas with a Bachelor of Science in Radio, Television, and Film. Prior to becoming a teacher in the last years of his life, he worked primarily in supply chain management for technology manufacturing companies. West was passionate about cooking, with a particular affinity for good Texas barbecue, bacon, and tacos! He loved reading, traveling, global multicultural music, watching movies, and learning, and was an avid listener to NPR. He preferred the outdoors and was an animal lover, cherishing his two cats, Nubbin and Nina.
West spent much of his life in Austin, Texas, where the motto is "Keep Austin Weird," and West did indeed endeavor to keep it weird! He was quite the character, and those who knew him couldn’t help but love him. We will all miss him and wish we could have had many more years with him.
The family is currently grieving privately but will be considering a memorial at a later time.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Association for Frontotemporal Degeneration (AFTD) in his memory. Donations can be made at https://www.theaftd.org.
