Obituary

Alfreda Carter Dunn

November 9, 1958 - February 25, 2025

Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not
your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.

Born on November 9, 1958, to Welbert and Amanda Carter, Alfreda was a beloved daughter, sister, friend, and mother who touched countless lives with her radiant smile, generous spirit, and unwavering faith. From a young age, Freda had an unbreakable spirit, an inspiring determination, and a compassionate heart that made her a light to everyone around her.

She grew up in Bogalusa, where she was known for her kindness in many ways. Freda was a graduate of Bogalusa High School and Southeastern University and she went on to pursue a fulfilling career in Social Services at Our Lady of the Angels Hospital.

Her dedication, work ethic, and love for her profession left an indelible mark on those she worked with. Outside of her career, Freda was deeply involved in her community and church, where she dedicated much of her time to uplifting others. Freda’s love for helping people was evident in everything she did including serving her country in the US Army (Desert Storm) and 344th Maintenance Co. She was also a long time Avon Sales Consultant.

Above all, “Nana” cherished her family. She leaves behind a host of family and friends who will forever cherish her memory, including Keith A. Dunn, her children, Tene’ Jenkins, Robert Carter (Shayna), Imari (Joshua) Smith and Lakeitha Dunn. Her grandchildren, Jayla, Bryson, Greyson, Xzavier, Carson, Christian, Cayden and Ca’Niya,

She shared an unbreakable bond with Sisters-in-Love: Virgie Moses, Barbara Benne, Marilyn Lott and Lisa Burrell, Godson Tellis Williams, and James Jefferson whom she loved as a special nephew. Her family meant everything to her, and her legacy of love, resilience, and compassion lives on in them. Besides her parents, she is preceded in death by sisters Mary Rivers and Clementene Lamin. Her passing leaves a void in our hearts, yet we are comforted knowing her spirit will continue to guide and inspire us.

A visitation will be held on Saturday, March 8, 2025 from 10:00AM – 12:30PM followed by the funeral service at 12:30PM at Greater Ebenezer Baptist Church. Interment – Bogalusa Cemetery.

Crain and Sons Funeral Home – Bogalusa are in charge of arrangements.
