Barbara Jean Murphee Leco
August 8, 1947 - March 26, 2025
Barbara Jean Murphee Leco, born on August 8, 1947 in Concord, North Carolina to Edna Jean and Alton H. Murphee, departed her Earthly home on Wednesday March 26, 2025 at the age of 77, after a lengthy illness. In her early years, Barbara was the “Jill of all trades”. She worked as a bus driver for Jefferson and Terrebonne Parishes. She was also a security guard and a cashier, but her most rewarding job was being a mother and grandmother. Barbara loved playing cards, Pokeno and telling jokes. If you knew Barbara, then you know she wasn’t afraid to tell you exactly what was on her mind. Her spunky personality and loving nature will be greatly missed. She was a proud member of Bible Baptist Church.
Barbara leaves to cherish her memories: Daughter and Son in law: Joann Leco Adams and Joel Adams; Son and Daughter in law: Anthony K. Leco, Jr. and Daphne Leco; 5 Grandchildren and Spouses: Kristy LeBouef, Anthony “Smurf” LeBouef, Josh and Shauna Leco, Anicka and Brandon Good, Anthony K. Leco, III and Katie Leco; 18 Great-grandchildren; 2 Great-great-grandchildren
She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 40 years Anthony Kerner Leco, Sr., parents Edna Jean Fortson Murphee and Alton H. Murphee, sister Martha Upright and great-grandson Luis Rey “LJ” Gomez.
Visitation will be at Bible Baptist Church (29567 Hwy. 424, Franklinton) on Monday March 31st from 5:00 pm until 9:00 pm and after 9:00 am on Tuesday. A funeral service will be held in the church at 11:00 am Tuesday with Rev. Harold Gaddy officiating. Burial will follow in the Bible Baptist Church Cemetery.
