Obituary

Ella Ruth Lott

February 28, 1935 - February 6, 2025

“I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Now there is in store for
me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to me on that day—and not only to me, but also to all who have longed for his appearing.” – 2 Timothy 4:7-8.

Sister Ella Ruth Lott was born on February 28, 1935 to the late Cecil Johnson, Sr. and Lucille Dyson Johnson. Ella was born into a loving, God-Fearing family that was devoted to the work of the Lord. She was baptized at a young age and was a member of Sweet Home Church of Christ Holiness, USA her entire life. She was a graduate of Washington Parish High School in 1952 and went on to study Vocal Performance at Southern University Baton Rouge for two years.

Ella was a true caregiver and spent most of her adult life caring for various family members and loved ones. She also spent several years doing housework in the community. In 1960, Ella began her career as an AVON Rep. and served in that role for 63 years. A few years back, Ella was recognized as the oldest and longest-standing AVON rep in the State of Louisiana. Even while she was in the hospital, she made sure that her family knew what orders needed to be delivered. She took her job very seriously and truly loved her customers.

She was a devoted member of Sweet Home COCHUSA, serving in various roles such as UCWM member, Sunday School Member, choir member for many years and President of the Deaconess board. While she never held the official title of Missionary, she served in that capacity as a God-appointed Missionary for decades because she truly was a servant who loved people. She would often check on sick and bereaved church members to offer her love and support during their difficult times. Ella loved each pastor that she served under at Sweet Home and she always gave them the highest level of respect and support.

She showed her love for God daily through the love that she spread to others. Ella was a quiet storm. She was gentle and loving, but also stern and direct when holding people accountable to live right and treat others right.

For over 65 years, Ella sang so eloquently for weddings, funerals, church services, church conventions (national and local) and many other events throughout the community. Her voice was unique, her vibrato was strong, and her anointing was undeniable. God blessed her with a beautiful instrument that she willingly used to bring joy, hope and comfort to so many throughout the years. If you didn’t know about Mary’s baby, you were hungry to know more after hearing her sing “Mary Had a Baby” during Christmas time.

Ella was a loyal and devoted wife to Johnny R. Lott for fifty-five years. She cared for her husband through many years of sickness and never wavered in her love and support for him.

She was a bonus mom to Joyce, Shanda, Lisa, Stevie, Joy, and so many others.

Ella went home to be with the Lord on February 6, 2025 at St. Tammany Hospital in Covington, LA.

She leaves to cherish her memory: her loving daughter, Debra Taylor of Bogalusa, LA, a special, loving and devoted son-in-law, Charles Taylor of Bogalusa, LA; two granddaughters, Christy (Chris) Montgomery of Covington, LA and Latesa Brown of Loranger, LA; five great –grandchildren that she loved dearly, Mya, Mirayah, Miranda, Christyn, and CJ; one special niece, Brenda Viverette of Waterford, Michigan; one aunt, Bettye Dyson of Bogalusa, LA; a host of cousins, relatives, neighbors, church members and several very special friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Cecil and Lucille Johnson; her husband, Johnnie Lott, her son, Vincent Lott, three brothers and three sisters.

A visitation will be held on Saturday, February 15, 2025 from 11:00AM - 1:00PM followed by the funeral service at 1:00PM at Sweet Home Church of Christ Holiness, 2200 Greenlaw Avenue, Franklinton, LA 70438, Eld. Kevin Golding Pastor and Officiant. Interment – Sweet Home Church Cemetery.
