Dalton Beryl Schilling

January 21, 1942 - February 26, 2025

Dalton Beryl Schilling, age 83 and a resident of Mt Hermon, passed away late Wednesday night February 26, 2025 at his home. He was a 1960 graduate of Mt Hermon High School, where he made many lifelong friendships. After graduating, he proudly served in the United States Air Force, stationed in California until completing his 4 year duty. After returning home, he married his wife of 59 years, Myrna Bulloch Schilling. His love of the outdoors led him to a 33 year career with Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries, where he retired as a Captain of Region 7. He then began working for the Washington Parish District Attorney’s Office as an investigator until his official retirement after 20 years of service. Beryl was a loyal member of the Mt Hermon Ruritan Club for many years, earning the status of Ruritan Forever Member. He held numerous positions with the club, such as Area Governor, Vice President, and President. He took great pride in the Washington Parish Free Fair, and served on various committees throughout the years. Beryl loved hunting, coaching and watching sports, gardening, and entertaining groups of friends and family with his famous crawfish boils. In most recent years, you could always visit with him at Brooks General Store having coffee and great food at least three times a day, where you could get his opinion on any subject matter. He was a longtime member of Mt Hermon Baptist Church.

He is survived by his two sons and daughters-in-law: Darren and Tracey Schilling Derek and Meghan Schilling; 8 Grandchildren and Spouses: Seth Schilling, Max Schilling, Dalton and Alyse Schilling, Grant Schilling, Ragen and Austin McCollum, Spencer Watson, Parker and Ali Watson, Sydney Peyton Richardson; 4 Great-Grandchildren: Eliza James McCollum, Bankston Luke McCollum, Brenton Ace Watson, Myles Blain Schilling; Sister: Robbie Snell; Numerous nieces and nephews whom he loved dearly

He was preceded in death by his wonderful wife, Myrna Bulloch Schilling, parents Helbert Tom Schilling and Ethel Miller Schilling, brother and sister in law Wayne and Blanche Schilling, sister and brother in law Jerry and W.E. Bates, brother in law Doug Snell and other family members.

Visitation will be at Crain Funeral Home (1109 Bene Street, Franklinton) on Sunday March 2nd from 10:00 am until 2:00 pm. A funeral service will be held in the funeral home chapel at 2:00 pm Sunday with Rev. Calvin Crowe officiating. Burial will follow in the Mt. Hermon Cemetery.
