Bogalusa City Council Meeting of February 4, 2025

The Bogalusa City Council met Tuesday (February 4, 2025) evening and, even though the Council only acted on three Resolutions and introduced two Ordinances, the meeting lasted over two hours. As usual, the meeting was contentious. See the Video Below

Minister Marvin Austin, Jr. was on the Agenda to speak but failed to appear.

Three Resolutions were considered:

• A Resolution (beginning at 8:10 into video of the meeting) authorizing the Mayor to auction surplus property from the Police Department on February 2, 2025. The vote to approve the Resolution was unanimous.

• A Resolution (beginning at 16:00 into video of the meeting) to support the placement of the City of Bogalusa under Fiscal Administration by the State of Louisiana's Fiscal Review Committee on January 29, 2025 and their recommendation to the Court of the appointment of Robert Neilson, CPA as Fiscal Administrator. See the related article and video of the Fiscal Review Committee on January 29, 2025  Following a lengthy (almost one hour) discussion, the vote to approve the Resolution was unanimous.

• A Resolution (beginning at 1:15:30 into video of the meeting) to appoint Julie Kellis as Council Member of District D. The vacancy is due to the recent death of Council Member Kenny Kellis and Julie Kellis (the wife of Kenny Kellis)  will serve until an election is held. The vote to approve the Resolution was unanimous.

Two Ordinances were introduced (beginning at 1:25:15 into video of the meeting), both to be considered at the next Council Meeting:

• An Ordinance to retain Becky Hammond, CPA to provide professional accounting services for the City. 

• An Ordinance regarding Transitional Facility, Halfway House, Group Residence, Family Violence Shelter (Transitional Homelessness).

Numerous persons spoke during Public Participation (beginning at 1:26:15). 

Mayor Tyrin Truong did not attend the meeting.
