Paul Wayne Fornea

January 19, 1947 - January 16, 2025

Paul Wayne Fornea, age 77 and of Varnado, Louisiana, passed away unexpectedly on January 16, 2025, just days before his 78th birthday, at Lakeview Regional Hospital in Covington.

Paul was born on January 19, 1947, in Bogalusa, Louisiana, to Cedric and Iris Fornea of Varnado. A proud graduate of Varnado High School, Paul continued his education at Southeastern Louisiana University, earning a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in Biology. He was a lifelong resident of the Varnado-Angie communities, where he developed a passion for gardening, pruning, and growing all types of plants and shrubs. He also had a deep appreciation for antiques and amassed a treasured collection over the years. Known for his knowledge of the land, Paul was a local historian, familiar with the history of Varnado like few others.

Paul retired from International Paper to devote his time to caring for his beloved parents. He cherished spending time with his best friend and stepdaughter, Blair, enjoying outdoor activities such as riding the four-wheeler, hunting, and fishing in their swamp, enjoying time on their porch reading books, listening to music, and playing musical instruments. He also enjoyed working alongside his brother, Richard, to plant gardens and create some of the best food plots for local wildlife.

Paul was a sweet and caring man, beloved for his warmth, humor, and unwavering devotion to his family and friends. His legacy of kindness and generosity will live on in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know him. A man of great integrity, Paul’s commitment to his loved ones will never be forgotten.

He is survived by his wife, Cynthia Lynne Slade Fornea “Cindy”; stepdaughter/best-friend, Blair Elaine; two brothers, Lonnie Fornea and Richard Fornea; one sister, Jane (Shane) Thomas; one nephew, Jeff (Traci) Fornea; three nieces, Laurie Williams, Theresa (Casey) Morris, and DeAnna (Tim) Knight; and numerous great nieces and nephews, including Allie (Anthony) Forbes, Brittney (Brett) Moore, Brooke (Reggie) Green, Daylan (Sunshyne) Morris, Carly Temples, Bailey Busby, Brandon (Catie) Knight, Tiler (Kayla) Knight: great-great nieces and nephews, Rayleigh Forbes, Brody Forbes, Maddox Forbes, Chrislyn Foster, Raiden Green, Ellie Forbes, Carsyn Temples, Waylan Morris, Hendryx Forbes, Saylor Forbes, Reign Green, Ryker Primes, Zayden Busby, Sophia Knight, Madilyn Knight, Leah Knight, and Millie Knight.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Cedric and Iris McCain Fornea; grandparents, T P and Louella Stallings Fornea, Henry and Allie Lott McCain; sister-in-law, Jerry Ann Fornea; nephew, Harry Williams; and great-nephew, Hunter Fornea.

Visitation will be held at Poole-Ritchie Funeral Home on Monday, January 20, 2025 from 1000 A.M. until the funeral service at 200 P.M.  Interment will be at the T.P. Fornea Cemetery in Varnado, LA.

Pallbearers will be Shane Thomas, Casey Morris, Tim Knight, Anthony Forbes, Daylan Morris, and Reggie Green.

Paul’s memory will live on through the love, kindness, and laughter he brought to everyone around him. He will be deeply missed, but never forgotten.
