James Richard Morgan

July 23, 1931 - January 29, 2025

James Richard Morgan, age 93 and a lifelong resident of Franklinton, passed away early Wednesday morning January 29, 2025 at Lakeview Regional Medical Center. He was born on July 23, 1931 and was a Class of 1950 graduate of Franklinton High School where he played for the Demons Football and Basketball teams. Richard received a scholarship to play football at Pearl River Community College for the legendary Coach Doby Holden. For his great achievements on the field, Richard was inducted into the Pearl River Community College Sports Hall of Fame in 2019. After his time at PRCC, he completed his education at Southeastern Louisiana University. Richard began a long, successful career at Hydratane Gas Company and later was employed by Pertolane Gas Company in Franklinton. He was later given the opportunity to become owner of Blossman Petroleum and Tire, which he owned until his recent retirement.

Richard worshipped his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ at First Baptist Church of Franklinton, where he served as deacon and taught Sunday School, across different age groups, for many years. He was currently an active member of the Fellowship Sunday School Class. Richard truly loved the Lord and his church family. He served on the Board of Directors of Parish National Bank for 35 years and also many years on the Good Samaritan Living Center Board of Directors. He was also an active member of the Franklinton Rotary Club for many years.

Along with enjoying his grandchildren and greatgrandchildren, he loved attending the Bible Study at Sugar Shack every Thursday morning and drinking coffee with special friends Dick Richardson and Mike McNeal, Jr.

Survived by: Wife of 70 years: Shirley Bateman Morgan; Daughter and Son in law: Mary and Mike Mobley of Franklinton; 2 Sons and Daughters in law: Jim and Sandy Morgan of Franklinton, Robert and Susan Morgan of Covington; 4 Grandsons and Spouses: Michael and Haley Mobley of Covington, James and Lauren Morgan of Alexandria, Justin and Cacy Morgan of Bentley, LA, Jonathan Morgan of Franklinton; 8 Great-grandchildren: Liam, Truett, Conrad and Elliot Morgan of Bentley, Ryman and Emersyn Morgan of Alexandria, Reese and Blair Mobley of Covington; Also numerous nieces, nephews, other family members and many friends

He was preceded in death by his parents Herbert Morgan and Ruby Forrest Morgan and 3 beloved sisters.

Visitation will be at First Baptist Church of Franklinton (903 Cleveland Street) on Saturday February 1st from 9:00 am until 11:00 am. A funeral service will be held in the church at 11:00 am Saturday with Dr. Jake Roudkovski and Rev. Joey Miller officiating. Burial will follow in Ellis Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family prefers memorial donations to First Baptist Church of Franklinton (950 Self Street, Franklinton, LA 70438).
