Rufus Breland "R.B." Tullos

March 19, 1938 - December 22, 2024

Rufus Breland "R.B." Tullos, age 86 and a resident of the Lawrence Creek Community, passed away Sunday night December 22. 2024 at Lakeview Regional Medical Center surrounded by his family, following a recent fall at his home. He was born in the Thomas Community on March 19, 1938 and was a lifelong resident of Washington Parish. R.B., as he was known all his life, graduated from Thomas High School in 1956 and then joined the United States Army. He proudly served his country with a tour of duty as a courier in Germany, traveling throughout that country as well as many other cities across Europe. Following his honorable discharge, R.B. married his high school sweetheart Juanita Magee and together they stayed by each other’s side for 68 years. He was an assistant manager for Borden Foods Company in Franklinton until the plant’s relocation. R.B. then began a long career as a school bus driver for the Thomas schools where he greatly enjoyed getting to know the countless children he served through the years. He always loved planting and tending his large vegetable garden each season. R.B. had a green thumb for sure, even selling different vegetables to the public from his home and also supplied Jack Brown’s Food Store with vegetables for many years.

R.B. was a longtime active member of Lawrence Creek Missionary Baptist Church, serving on numerous committees and teaching children’s Sunday school for 35 years. He and his wife were instrumental in the founding of the summer Bible School for children over 30 years ago. He also helped to start the youth ministry within the church and the youth service that was held on Saturday nights. R.B. was always so encouraging to the children and youth of Lawrence Creek Church and others, as he knew they were the future. His later years were focused on spending time with his great-grandchildren, as they loved him as “Paw Paw B”.
